New ZOO template released

Today we released a new minor ZOO version 2.0.3. In addition to the bugfixes we updated our blog app and put an additional template called “Sans” in this app. The new template is based on the default blog template and beside some small improvements it uses a sans-serif typeface for the headlines. We created this template to make our blog app fit a wider range of websites which uses a sans-serif typeface. So with this new template you can easily change the style of your blog, without changing any of the css styles. Read more about the other improvements and update ZOO today . Further Updates and Changes With the new release, we also got rid of a few bugs and introduced some changes. Here is a not complete list of bugfixes and changes to the ZOO 2.0.3 + added new sans template to blog app + added “above title” media alignment option to the default template of the blog app + added k2 version 2.3 import support + added requirements check button to administration ^ general performance upgrade # all template positions are now being saved on type slug rename and copy # fixed bug where an items tag would show, even though the publishing date was in the future # fixed bug where .flv movies would only play if set to autoplay # fixed some HTML markup validation errors # replaced deprecated ereg function from googlemaps helper # fixed bug with tags view and pagination # fixed bug where Joomlas email cloaking plugin would introduce a leading space to the email address # fixed bug with chinese characters in slug # removed unused helpers/menu.php file (caused problems with Advanced Module Manager) ^ changed “READ MORE” to “READ_MORE” in all language files – removed needless $params in teaser layout (only documentation app) ^ changed how layouts are called in the item template ^ removed article separator if article is last in all templates of the blog app (CSS) ^ changed padding for last elements in text areas (CSS) ^ moved comment rendering from layouts to item view (all apps) Download ZOO and the new template today.

At the end of our “YOOtheme templates – An inside look!” presentation, we did at JandBeyond, we showed the audience a little teaser of our secret project we were working on the last 9 months: Our new YOOicons! And today we are very proud to open the gates to the new website presenting our icons . You may already use one of our templates to build good looking websites. But what about your content? Wouldn’t it be great to have some real eye-catching icons to beautify the content of your website? Icons are an essential content element for web design. Today almost every major website uses icons to highlight important parts in their content. This is why we came up with the idea of creating handcrafted icon packages for web and print projects. With YOOicons we will offer commercial icon packages as well as free icon sets. We start with our first commercial icon package: the Basic Package. The Basic Package The Basic Icon Package is packed with 125 high quality icons. It includes useful icons for your company website, many social icons and all the standard icons you need for web applications. All icons are available as 32-bit transparency PNG file format in 8 different standard sizes ranging from 16×16 to 512×512 pixels. This makes a total of 1000 extremely detailed icons which are handmade optimized for each specific size. Adobe Illustrator compatible vector PDF files of all icons are also available so that the icons can be rescaled to any size without a single loss to the details. The Design Process Let’s take an inside look into the process of designing of the Basic Package. We started off with a blank sheet of paper and produced our first ideas from scratch. Next we prepared the smaller sizes, taking perfectly care of a beautiful result. Most important in this step was designing with the pixel grid. We needed a good feeling for which detail to highlight or ditch in every step of downsizing. Of course there were many modifications and sometimes it was a hard fight until we were truly satisfied. With the slices we’d already build in Adobe Illustrator it was easy to export the icons as PNG. To play safe we singly checked each one of them in Adobe Photoshop and cleaned up scruffy edges if necessary. The final step was to export the source file as vector PDF – Et Voilà, here they are! You did it again! We received so many exciting pictures from all over the world… Thank you! It was really hard for us to pick the 10 winners. Thus we chose our 20 favorites and randomly picked the 10 lucky winners. We will notify them today by email that they have won a 6 month membership with the app bundle and all the new tools for ZOO 2.0. Congratulations! We want to thank all of you guys again for participating in our I♥YOO competition . It was really fun! Enjoy the winning pictures. This year we want to highlight some guys from South Africa: Matthew, Dwight and Marcos. They did really funny pictures with alien masks through their travel from Cape Town to Amsterdam, Brussels and JandBeyond! Awesome, guys! First of all we want to thank the organizers of the JandBeyond conference for this great event and the whole on-site organization. Robert , Alex and the whole team did a great job! We had the chance to present two sessions about our templates and the new ZOO 2.0. For those of you who did not have the chance to see the presentations live, we recorded both of them on video and are proud to show you the result in this blog post. So lean back and enjoy the show! YOOtheme templates – An inside look! In our first presentation, Sven one of our lead designers took a closer look at the design process and the magic behind YOOtheme templates. He gave an insight of what makes a template a good tempate and what we do to achieve this. He also explained how easy it is to customize images of the templates using Fireworks. The second presentation by ZOO developer Jan and support team member Malte showed the ZOO 2.0 in action, and described what benefits you’ll gain by using it.
